New equipment for the dormitory “Casa Hogar La Paz”
Since October 2020, 14 female students have been living in the “Casa Hogar La Paz” dormitory in Quibdó. After university scholarships and living space had already been secured, some of the equipment was still missing. In addition to the living space, a study room had to be set up:
Since lectures and seminars are being held virtually for the time being due to the Covid-19 pandemic, IT equipment (e.g., computers, headphones, printers) was urgently needed. Despite the university’s virtual concept, the young women were unable to stay in their rural home communities and attend classes from there. This was not only due to the lack of funds to purchase a computer, but also due to the frequent lack of internet coverage and reception in these areas.
With the help of the Archdiocese of Cologne (Department for the Universal Church), it was possible to finance a computer room and necessary furnishings for “CASA HOGAR La Paz”. Eleven computers, desks and a printer were purchased, as well as five beds and mattresses, a washing machine and other necessary furniture.
This way, the young women in the dormitory can now complete their studies even in times of the pandemic and at the same time have a living space in which they can feel comfortable.
We would like to thank – also on behalf of the 14 female students in Quibdó – the Archdiocese of Cologne for this important support.
